Goncalo Amaral doesn't need to go down the legal route - he has right on his side and the truth is coming out.

The McCanns have spent 8+ years battling it out in the Civil courts and look where its got them? Not to mention, simply living with all those trials over their heads is a hellish life choice.

I want to see Goncalo Amaral doing as many, if not more, interviews than the McCanns, he's the good guy and the world needs to see that. His book, The Truth of the Lie, says all that needs to be said, and the more who read it, the better. Although if true, it seems the vagrant, the drug addict and the schoolboy have outwitted 31 homicide detectives and all the resources of Scotland Yard.

Joking aside, I think it appalling that the Star have named these 3 men as suspects in the abduction and probable murder of Madeleine McCann. What effect will this have on their lives? I doubt they are in any position to sue anyone, so must spend the remainder of their lives under a cloud of suspicion.

I think if Scotland Yard close their investigation with the botched burglary explanation, they will be universally mocked. Four and a half years and that's what they come up with?

Tbh, I think it is ludicrous to suggest that £12m has been spent on chasing 3 inept burglars. The size and scale of Operation Grange would suggest they were investigating the Mafia or an organised crime ring of some description. And if they are closing the file with no arrests, they have failed miserably. In fact, maybe he could learn from the McCanns, who found that suing only one newspaper 'pour encourager les autres', and offering careful, approved access to the rest, was the wiser route. They then made lap dogs of the rest of the press pack.
Now the media has much to fear. Sky (and so by extension, Murdoch) hounded a woman who later killed herself - essentially because her tweets supported Amaral and criticised the McCanns. Does Amaral really want to scare the press pack so much that they then fund the McCanns defence further? Wouldn't it be better to make peace with a least some of them and gain some press support? By all means go for the McCanns and their friends, and carefully choose one or two media targets to compensate for all those years of hardship - but don't try to fight everyone would be my advice. Things are looking good now. For the first time Goncalo may have the opportunity to make a few 'friends' (and take away a few of the McCanns friends) and I think he should take it. I suppose I'm just a cynic.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-834822786084044829.post-4189794984780304172016-04-21T11:30:31.974+01:002016-04-21T11:30:31.974+01:00"any version of Truth of the Lie in English t..."any version of Truth of the Lie in English that can be found on the Internet is also illegal, as neither he nor Guerra e Paz publishers have given their authorisation to translations."

Says Amaral.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-834822786084044829.post-54513934280389783362016-04-21T11:26:11.064+01:002016-04-21T11:26:11.064+01:00The legal costs must run into hundreds of thousand...The legal costs must run into hundreds of thousands, if not millions 20:10. Lawyers charge by the hour - and Kate and Gerry must now pay not only their own lawyers but the lawyers of Goncalo Amaral and the two other defendants.

They literally risked everything in pursuing their case against Goncalo Amaral. A moral lawyer (is there such a thing?) would have advised them to STOP long ago.

When the McCanns received their big payouts from the UK newspapers, it wasn't because the papers were 'giving in', it was because a £500k payout was considerably cheaper than a long drawn out trial.

The Lisbon case has been going on for around 5 years, and if each lawyer averages £300 per hour, you can begin to see the scale of the costs they now face. Unless they have millions stashed away, the McCanns now face financial ruin.
Rosalinda Huttonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01497239700092619580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-834822786084044829.post-69622400256675144942016-04-21T11:26:07.773+01:002016-04-21T11:26:07.773+01:00The list of those to be sued would be extensive.IM...The list of those to be sued would be extensive.IMO Mr Amaral would go for the main players. In recent days since the appeal courts decision we hear that Mr Amaral is to sue the Mccanns. Then we hear the Mccanns will sue anyone selling Mr Amarals book.I'd say that this is a bad move on Mccann part because it just attracts more attention to the book,'folk will be thinking they've summat to hide'. Not sure I am any the wiser, other than to say all they really care about is the number of copies they shift.

...... this has turned into a blog, Ooops

Clarence is right, this is a soap opera, and they will watching their circulation figures carefully. In 2007/8, McCann stories flew off the shelves. Oprah didn't have them on her show because she liked them, they were there because the audience were curious, the whole world was. The same could be said for their breakfast sofa appearances - bums on seats and all that. Kate Hopkins for example, is quite likely to say something outrageous that will grab the headlines, so she is a regular guest.

In their heyday, they could (and did) ask for whatever they wanted. The media didn't feel sorry for them, they wanted a cut of the action. As long as they shifted copy, they were handled with kid gloves.

The same mentality may persist even now 15:04. The end of this case may be as sensational as the beginning when newspapers and magazines were in a bidding war for anything Madeleine related.

Whoever gets 'the confession', will have a glittery future, it will become an iconic 'TV' or 'NEWS' item forever more. Never mind pitching for exclusives for the 10th Anniversary Clarence, the 'truth' could rake in millions and time is running out.

Journalists can be pretty ruthless when it comes to getting a scoop. They will do all the boozing and schmoozing that they have to if they can grab the front and centre pages. Some, like Lorraine, may have establish a relationship (still makes her a two faced bitch)with their subjects, but all will do what they can to keep them onside.

The tabloids days are numbered, there aren't that many big pay days left. They too remember those hazy, surreal days of summer 2007 when Madeleine stories sold in millions. It was a phenomenon and one they would no doubt like to recreate.

Whether that is possible anymore remains to be seen. Anyone in the least bit curious about Madeleine's disappearance can see immediately that the newspapers are not telling the truth, so why buy them?

As I said before, the newspaper industry is a dying duck, all the bias, prejudice and manipulation has been exposed. Through the case of Madeleine McCann, ordinary people have woken up to the Media's deceit, and they have so many other options, they don't have to put up with it anymore. They really struggled to get sponsors for their runs etc, only reaching their targets by receiving a £5k donation from Hugh Grant.

The McCanns are vexatious litigants 19:27. I know quite a lot about VLs as I spent many years working as a legal secretary. Without exception, they were horrible people - rude, arrogant and constantly on the look out for something to be offended by. Also, without exception, they will carry on until they lose everything. As you can imagine, we secretaries had little sympathy for them, they treated us like skivvies, but the lawyers tolerated them, because, basically, they would never go away and besides, they were constant source of fees. The savvy ones worked on retainers - money up front. And after yesterday's result, I would imagine ALL the McCann lawyers will now be asking for this, if they haven't already.
